Back from Alaska - back to work

The Alaska diversion was spectacular with Glacier Bay etc. So beautiful.

The project with ISU in MapWindow is winding down and has been a huge success.

The new mwGPS.dll works well and the Sampling.dll allows for customization of field data entry menus. The slowness of the GPS pinging caused by the large 250mb parcel database that I had loaded along with the entire state centerling network. just too much data on the sceen and in RAM all at the same time.

I have all th…

Valery leaves Utah

Valery and I had several adventures here in Utah where a gigantic thunder storm overturned boats and forced us to run for the marina breakwater do to gale force winds.

Work continues at Idaho State University (2)

Meetings are scheduled for July 30th with developers at MapWindow. The field data collection app seems to have some difficulty keeping up with real-time locations when large aerials are used in the background or even large vector files (ie parcels # > 500,000 records). The malability of the application is superior to all that I have tried in that the user has control over much of the menu driven selections and defaults attribute values. Maybe image services and SDE connectivity in the future.…

Work continues at Idaho State University

I had conference calls today with MapWindow Developers at Idaho State University. Contracted functionality within mwGPS.dll is almost complete. Testing today provided some needed changes to the field sampling module. This will provide us (UDOT) with non-ESRI field data collection functionality for feature inventory (guardrail, signs, traffic counter, traffic cameras, intersections, soundbarrier, overhead variable message signs, and everything I can think of.) Very powerful, very fast, very si…

Hi Chris, Glad to meet you too!
Well in our vaults we have thousands of maps, so you could say we have work for a lifetime or two..
It all depends on funding, not the material in it self.

I got the nickname 'NoMain' from a sailing adventure where the mainsail was completely distroyed, and in the emergency I hoisted the 220 Genoa up the mainmast and made it safely 2 hrs back to the marina, with 'NoMain' and the name stuck.

Hi Chris, Glad you could join us. Looks like you are a serious GIS professional ... just the kind of people we are looking for. Our aim with this site is to match up these people already flying RCs, UAVs etc, get them to use our free software to acquire imagery, and turn it into useful geodata for guys like you. Let us know how we can work together.
