Hi Joe, We hope it is a place where anyone/everyone can post, link and geotag DIY Aerial Photography data. Photos, Video, instructions, stories etc. whether it comes from RC, UAV, Kites etc.
PictEarth itself is really in the business of turning this raw imagery into geodata that can be used in GIS programs ... i.e. Google Earth. We are going to release our software for Nokia Phones as open source, and hopefully get many many people working on it so it can become the one of the best set of tools available for this kind of thing. Many many people will simply want to collect imagery and post it here for fun, but we are already in touch with many GIS types (Natural Resources, Fish&Game, Forestry etc) that want to see this kind of thing grow and really become accepted by the FAA as a viable, useful tool for professionals. In order to do this, we need to collect data from amateurs and show how it can be turned into useful geodata. So, for now, we encourage everyone to simply post their data, geotag it, enjoy and everyone elses data. It is free for us to run this, and free for you to use it. What could be better :) We realize that there are existing communities (RCAPA, RCForums etc), but none of them is done in the Web 2.0, Social Network style which is taking over the world. So, we hope that this site complements these wonderful groups and resources.
Let us know if we can improve anything, or if you have ideas for new features. The Ning platform is wide open to us as developers, so basically whatever you can dream up, we can do, just let us know.
